A Kitchen That Finally Works: How Slide-Out Shelves Transformed This Wichita Home

by | Nov 11, 2025 | Slide Out Shelves, Custom Storage Solutions, Home Organization

Most kitchens don’t have a storage problem — they have an access problem.

Things get pushed to the back of cabinets, forgotten, duplicated, or become too difficult to reach. Over time, frustration builds. The kitchen feels cluttered and inconvenient even though the square footage hasn’t changed.

This was exactly the case for one of our recent clients here in Wichita. She had lived with her kitchen the same way for years. Cabinets were deep, dark, and difficult to use. Her pantry had a center divider that prevented full access. Lower base cabinets required bending, reaching, and kneeling. And like many homeowners, she had simply gotten used to working around the limitations.

Until one day she didn’t want to work around them anymore.
She saw our slide-out solutions and realized that instead of remodeling her kitchen, she could transform how it functioned — using the space she already had.

Her only regret now?

She told us, “I should have done this years ago.”

What We Installed — And Why It Made Such a Difference

This wasn’t a one-shelf quick fix. It was a thoughtfully designed transformation of how her storage worked.

Here’s what we installed:

1. Base Cabinets Left of the Range

These were two separate cabinets, each with two doors. We installed a bottom and middle slide-out in each cabinet

Now, instead of crouching and digging, she simply pulls out each shelf and sees everything clearly.

2. Pantry Cabinet: Upper & Lower Sections

Her pantry originally had a fixed center stile dividing the opening, making it hard to reach items in the back.
We relocated the stile to the left door, creating a wide, full-access opening.
Then we installed five slide-outs in the lower section.
Everything now glides outward — no more toppling stacks, no more forgotten bags of flour or pasta hiding in corners.

In the Upper Section of her pantry, we repeated the stile relocation at the top and installed a left and right slide-out.

The left is slightly wider, maximizing every inch of space.

4. Cabinet Left of the Refrigerator

This cabinet also had a center stile. We relocated it to create full-width access and installed a bottom slide-out and middle slide-out shelves. The upper pull-out was positioned lower to make her KitchenAid mixer easy to lift and store. No more wrestling a heavy mixer from a high shelf!

5. Upper Cabinet Left of the Range: Slide-out Spice Racks

We transformed this previously underused cabinet by installing seven vertical slide-out spice organizers, giving her complete visibility and order. For the first time, she can see every label. No more buying duplicates simply because she couldn’t see what she already had.

Materials and Quality That Lasts

Every slide-out shelf we installed is built from 5/8-inch birch, with a strong quarter-inch bottom panel.

They’re mounted on full-extension, 100-lb capacity rails — sturdy enough for canned goods, appliances, cookware, and more.

We used a combination of:
5-inch sidewall slide-outs to prevent tipping and falling
High-back slide-outs (3-in front wall rising to 6-in back wall) for items that need extra support
These shelves are built to be used every day — not only stored in.
And because each pull-out is installed on an adjustable rail system, she can change the spacing anytime, just like adjusting shelves.

Her kitchen can continue adapting to her life, not the other way around.

Custom Install of Slide-Out Shelves Happened in Just One Day

This is one of the parts that surprises most homeowners. There was no demolition. No construction mess. No kitchen shutdown.
Our team completed the full installation in one day.

She went from struggling with inaccessible storage in the morning… to opening fully organized, fully accessible cabinetry by dinner.

The Emotional Shift: From Frustration to Relief

During our follow-up visit, she told us something we hear often:

>>>> “I didn’t realize how much stress my kitchen was causing me until it wasn’t anymore.”

She is now:
Cooking more often — because everything is easy to reach
Wasting less food — because she can see what she has
Buying fewer duplicates — especially spices
Enjoying being in her kitchen — instead of fighting with it

And she said it plainly:

>>>>  “It seemed like a big investment at first, but now that I’m living with it… it was absolutely worth it.”

Why Slide-Out Shelves Work Better Than Deep Cabinets or Lazy Susans

Lazy Susans and deep cabinets create the same core problem: You have space — you just can’t access it well.
Slide-outs bring the contents to you, instead of forcing you to reach, bend, dig, or unload everything to get to one item.
Every inch becomes usable.
Every shelf becomes visible.
Every item becomes reachable.
Your kitchen doesn’t just look organized —
it functions in a way that feels calm and efficient.
